Our Process
In order to give each piece that custom-made quality Green Acres Furniture concentrates first on selecting the finest wood possible, buying the actual timber even before it is processed at the sawmill. Green Acres Furniture then produces the entire piece from start to finish. Green Acres Furniture believes the process that follows makes them unique. While some shops begin with boards that already have been cut, planed and glued by other local providers, Green Acres Furniture begins with the raw lumber itself. In order to do that, Green Acres Furniture buys its own timber and has the logs cut at a sawmill. From that point on, the wood doesn't leave the site until it is a part of a piece of finished furniture.
After the wood is rough-cut, the boards are stacked, air-dried (using spacers) for four to five months, then kiln-dried for about 30 days. It is important to watch this drying process carefully and monitor the moisture in the boards, in order to avoid splitting. Once they are ready to be made into furniture, the boards then follow a multistep process in which they are planed, sanded, cut into strips, glued and then crafted into the various pieces that make up a particular item.
Producing their own power allows Green Acres Furniture to use machinery that not only allows for precision detail in the building process, but also increases productivity. For example, a machine that cuts dovetails for drawers makes uniform, precision cuts every time, and allows the worker operating the machine to increase his productivity dramatically. But every machine - and the process itself - is only as good as those who operate it. At some point, the machinery becomes secondary to the human factor. For it is the attention to detail, fit and finish that account for the "look" and feel of quality that Green Acres Furniture is known for.
